Elementary School Supplies That Will Come in Handy for HVAC Schools

Sep 08, 2022

When you enroll in an HVAC school, you will take advanced classes and dive deep into the world of HVAC systems. Even with all the advanced learning, you will need some basic school supplies to help get your through the courses.

The next time you browse a school supply aisle at a local store, you may notice that a lot of the supplies catered towards younger students will actually serve you through HVAC courses. As you prepare for your classes, check out some of the elementary school supplies needed for specific purposes as you learning heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.

Colored Pencils

Colored pencils may be great art tools for young students, but they become essential as you learn the inner workings of HVAC equipment. When you work in classrooms of HVAC courses, you will often draw out wire diagrams and schematics for various parts found in furnaces and refrigerators. Colored pencils provide sharp tips to cover small details.

The different colors will help you differentiate the various wires used in the parts. As you visualize the drawings, the different colors will help you understand components. In many cases, you can rely on colored pencils to match the real colors of wires inside the unit. You do not need to worry about labeling the specific colors when you have the actual colors available.

When you go back to look at your drawings and notes, you can easily identify specific sections and recognize components easier. Ideally, you want to purchase at least a 24 pack of colored pencils so you have multiple shades of colors and can use as many colors as you need.

Along with the colored pencils, you should purchase a pencil sharpener. You do not want a dull or broken colored pencil to delay you in any way as you plan out your designs and get through the classwork.

Rulers

A basic ruler is not used for measuring in HVAC class as much as it's used to create straight lines. Clean and crisp lines offer the best way to draw different elements of HVAC equipment. In many cases, you will need to draw small details and elements. Freehand drawing could lead to potential issues or confusing designs.

A basic ruler will provide the straight lines and make the process go faster. When you shop for a ruler, look for a metal ruler with a grip on the bottom. The grip prevents the ruler from sliding around as you draw lines and set up specific positions on the paper. The metal top provides durability as you use the ruler through multiple weeks of class.

Graphing Paper

While notebooks are a given for HVAC courses, you could take things a step further with the purchase of graphing paper. Typically limited to patterns and charts for elementary school students, graphing paper provides easy ways to draw out HVAC designs. The graphing paper features multiple straight lines to follow and easy ways to ensure accurate lengths.

You could purchase a spiral notebook filled with graphing paper or just some loose leaf graphing paper. After a few weeks of classes, you will have a good idea of how much graphing paper you will need and can just bring in sheets as needed.

Tracing Paper

As you learn to master design elements of HVAC equipment, you could learn at a much faster pace with tracing paper. When you draw schematics for an HVAC component, you could use tracing paper to repeat the process instead of starting from scratch. The extra copies and time you take will help you master certain parts and learn the flow of wires or pieces.

You can lay tracing paper down over the top of any kind of paper to copy the design. Many writing tools work on tracing paper, including colored pencils, markers, or pens.

Zip-Up Pencil Case

Elementary school students often need to carry their supplies in a pencil case. While you do not need a hard top pencil case that snaps shut, you could stay organized with a large zip-up pencil case. Each time you go to class, you could bring your pencil case with you and have everything you need for extra supplies.

Keep colored pencils, pens, erasers, a sharpener, and a ruler all inside the case. The case is easy to carry and become one of your more valuable options as you get through HVAC classwork.

When you shop for pencil cases, you can find simple designs and patterns that fit your classroom setting. You won’t have to choose designs with wild colors or character designs — the more you shop around, the more options you will find for the cases.
