4 Ways Your Phone Can Help You Through HVAC Classes

Jul 12, 2022

An HVAC course includes a lot of technical information, details, and instructions to take in. Finding your key way to learn information and study will help you thrive in the course. Along with traditional notes and learning, you may find some studying help through the use of your phone.

In many cases, your phone could become a source of distractions, but you can take advantage of the modern technology to really help you thrive while you attend HVAC classes. Check out some of the more effective ways to use your phone and remain focused on your studies.

1. PDF Picture Converters

As you sit in class, you will have a lot of notes to take and a lot of information to follow on a whiteboard. While you should write down those notes manually and have a resource to look back on, you also have the opportunity to convert those notes into files on your phone.

Many phone apps can convert images into PDF files so you can easily look back over your notes. Use PDF conversion tools to transfer multiple images of notes into one easy-to-read PDF file. For example, at the end of a class, you can take a picture of the classroom whiteboard and convert all of the information into a PDF.

Instead of carrying a notebook around with you all the time, you have the ability to quickly load the PDF file and access the notes. If you have an Android phone, then an app is already built in the form of Google Drive. With Google Drive, you can create a folder to organize all of your notes into one section and have easy access.

Cloud services also give you the opportunity to load the notes on other devices like a computer.

2. Flashcard Apps

In the world of HVAC, you will have a lot of terms to memorize and use on a regular basis. Your classes will dive deep into specific parts, repair methods, and functions of machines like furnaces, air conditioners, and refrigeration. Get a jump-start on your learning with the use of a flashcard app.

A customized flashcard app, allows you to type in a term, write the definition on the back, and repeat the process for several flashcards. Different apps have a number of features, including the ability to mark flashcards you struggled with. As you progress, you can focus on specific areas and know what you need to work on more.

The flashcard apps provide extra help if you study or work with other students as well. Easily hold up the flashcard to another student, ask for the answer, and then reveal the answer. The quick typing mechanics will save time from filling out physical flashcards and give you the opportunity to study anywhere you want.

3. Tool & Machine Manual Downloads

If you want to really know the ins and outs of the HVAC world, then improve your knowledge with PDF manual downloads. While many companies used to pack paper manuals with products, a majority of companies now offer full product manuals online for easy access.

Download the manual for any specialty tool you use in an HVAC shop. The tool manuals will cover all of the functions of the tool and give you a lot of insight on the best way to use specific features. You could also download full manuals for any machinery you work on in class. For example, you could download a specific furnace model manual.

The pictures and details inside the manual will typically break down parts, features, and various troubleshooting information. If you have extra time, dive into some of the manuals and build a knowledge base of the equipment you surround yourself with each day in class.

4. Focus Apps

While a phone does provide a lot of resources, the device can also create a lot of distractions. If you find yourself checking social media or drawn to the web, then you may want to install a focus app. A focus app can disable quick access to specific apps like a web browser. Set a timer and dedicate a specific amount of time to studying.

The various apps allow you to remain focused and can help you create healthy habits as you go through your studies. Some of the apps also work on computers as well, so you can limit access no matter what type of device you use.

Some apps will have a broad blocking feature while others can help you block out specific apps as needed. For example, you may find yourself scrolling through Instagram or Reddit when you should study. A focus app can block very specific areas and turn your focus to your classwork.

Some of the apps can also block out text messages or calls, which is helpful if you use your phone during class to take notes or study specific sections.
